Accessories

Gillispie -What accessories are you using?  What works?  What doesn't?  Share links, too please!)

There are so many accessories available for the iPod Touch and iPhone, it's difficult to keep track of them all.  Which ones are good for personal use?  Which ones are suited to classroom and student use?  Have you used a particular accessory?  If so, share and write a little review.  Also, share how your school is using these accessories!

Cases

Cases can save lots of wear and tear on your classroom iPods, however, they can be an expensive (and somewhat "hidden") cost when buying a classroom set of iPod Touches.  This is a great place to get your parents (PTO/PTA) involved!  Have them donate a case or cover for an iPod Touch.  One thing we've noticed in Pender County is that having a variety of cases helps to identify the iPods when distributing them to students during the classroom routine.

Ebay is a great place to buy cases in quantity at a reasonable price, however, this is often not an option for schools.  Again, get your parents involved!

Monoprice is a great place to get cases for less than $1.50 each with very reasonable shipping costs.

Docking Stations

Philips Docking Entertainment System (DC910) - I found one of these on clearance at Wal-Mart.  They cost somewhere around $90.  It has a great sound.  It's easy to dock your Touch with or without the case.  It has a remote.  It also has other input options (USB, 3.5mm Mini, etc.). (Gillispie)

Headphones

The headphones included with the iPod Touch seem to work pretty well.  We also allow students to use their own headphones brought from home if they prefer.  Also, note that 2nd and 3rd Generation iPod Touches have a small speaker that produces sufficient sound for many applications. (Gillispie)

Microphones

32GB and 64GB touches come with earbuds that have a microphone on them.  Unlike iPhone, iPod touch does not have a built-in mic.

You can buy the earbuds with mic from Apple or much cheaper at Monoprice.

The TuneTalk mic is stereo and attaches to the doc connector.

Thumbtacks mic is tiny and attaches to the headphone jack.

iTunes Gift Cards

A $50 iTunes Gift card goes a long way!  Consider asking your parents to donate one of these to support your school's iPod Touches. You can get a discount on iTunes cards at Costco.
